What to expect

At some addresses in the Cincinnati Bell service area, wires are not completley connected from Cincinnati Bell's network to the customer's premise. Depending on the layout of the home (sidewalk, street, driveway, etc.), ociassionally, a wire needs to be ran in order to make that connection and provide service to the customers address.

This can be done through 1 of 3 different types of Buried Wires:

1. Bore - This is required when a structure/barrier is in the way of the connection (sidewalk, street, driveway, etc.). A Bore must be pre-buried before service can be activated at the customer's premise.

What does it mean?

The wire connecting the Cincinnati Bell terminal to the customer's home must cross some type of hard surface (sidewalk, street, or street) prior to the Cincinnati Bell installation. The wire is typically buried 2 feet below the hard surface. A permit to bury may be needed. A Bore installation will be automatically scheduled 15 business days out.

How does it work?

A visit is scheduled for the buried wire technicians to bury the line under the hard surface. At that time, the technician will also bury the fiber line underground. This appointment will be scheduled 15 business days out and the customer does not need to be present.

2. Temporary Wire - This is required when the wire can be connected without crossing a barrier (typically in grassy or dirt/land area). A wire is placed by the Cincinnati Bell technician and later buried by our Buried Wire group.

What does it mean?

A temporary wire can be placed from the home to the Cincinnati Bell terminal without crossing any hard surfaces (i.e. driveway, sidewalk, street) at the time of installation. This is done without a delay in the CBT install time frame.

How does it work?

At the time of the installation, the field technician will lay a temporary line to the terminal and complete the standard installation of services. There will be a follow-up visit from the buried wire department (Cincinnati Bell vendor) to bury the fiber line. The customer is not required to be home for the visit as all the work done will be outside the premise.

3. Temporary Wire & Bore - This is required when a structure/barrier is in the way of the connection (sidewalk, street, driveway, etc.). A Bore must be completed, however, a Cincinnati Bell technician will have to lay a temporary wire prior to the bore being completed. The Bore/Buried Wire group will return at a later date to complete the work.

We understand that this process may be alarming to you. Please understand that you are not responsibile to do anything as our customer. Our Cincinnati Bell technicians and vendors will complete the project for you. If you have any additional questions regarding a buried wire, please contact us at 513-565-9890.

Note: *Weather can delay the timelines mentioned above.

This is commonly referred to as "Buried Wire". To complete an installation, at times, Cincinnati Bell must run a temporary line. Most of these scenarios occur if you have buried utilities. Cincinnati Bell will connect your services with a marked line above ground and there will be a follow up visit from a Cincinnati Bell vendor to come out and bury the line in your yard. You are not required to be home for the visit.

When is my installation appointment scheduled?

The Cincinnati Bell service technician will arrive sometime during the time frame window you were provided when placing your order (example: 8-12, 12-4, or 4-8). The time frame quoted is the arrival window for your technician. There may be situations when your technician does not arrive until the end of your time frame window. The completion of your service installation may extend past the quoted time frame.

Upon arrival, your technician will verify that someone over 18 will be present during the entire installation process, and, if you rent or lease, that you have a signed permission form from your landlord.

Your technician will then perform an initial walk through to give you a personalized time estimate. During installation, your technician will need unobstructed access to all cable jacks. This may mean you will need to move large entertainment centers, bookcases, large beds, etc. prior to your appointment. For the safety of your pet(s) and our technicians, please secure any pets while our technician is at your home. Drilling may also be necessary to route wires and cables.

Your technician will call 30 minutes prior to arrival at the number you provided when placing your order. Please make sure you answer; otherwise, your installation may need to be rescheduled.
