Second Annual Softball Tournament Fundraiser a Big Hit
The second annual Cincinnati Bell softball tournament benefiting United Way of Greater Cincinnati went off without a hitch on Friday, September 15th. Twenty teams of employees participated, as well as an executive and all-star team. The teams battled it out against one another, losing and advancing through round one, quarterfinals, semifinals, finally to a championship game. In the end, the team “More Fast” took home the championship title for the second year in a row after defeating “Field Ops Sluggers”.
A new addition to the event this year was the inaugural Home Run Derby where participants gave it their all for two minutes hoping to have the highest score. This new addition had so much demand, it lasted over three hours!
Ron Beerman, co-chair of the tournament, said this year's event will build on the success of the 2016 inagural tournament, which raised nearly $5,000 for United Way.
"This is a great oppertunity to spend time with colleagues and enjoy friendly competition while raising money for an organization that is helping life children and families out of poverty," Beerman said.
The Home Run Derby and other fundraising activities on the day of raised $1,200, with the overall total for the whole event still being calculated.
This tournament is part of an ongoing campaign to support United Way of Greater Cincinnati. As a company, it is Cincinnati Bell’s goal to engage the community while raising funds and awareness for this important organization, and to do so in a way that brings fun and excitement. United Way president Rob Reifsynder even stopped by to see the excitement.
The real home run of the day, however, was the announcement that for the second year in a row Cincinnati Bell has exceeded the company goal of raising $1 Million for United Way of Greater Cincinnati. The campaign is not over yet though, and as a company we will now work to meet our reach goal.
Community is of very high importance here at Cincinnati Bell, and we can't wait for next year's tournamant.
The second annual Cincinnati Bell United Way softball tournament was a huge success! The event took place at the River City East complex; the grounds were great. Event organizers even met with United Way of Greater Cincinnati President Rob Reifsynder.
