Cincinnati Bell Raises $27,000 for Programs That Help Wounded Warriors and Their Families

September 11, 2012

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cincinnati Bell today announced that a special promotion during the month of August has raised $27,000 for USO Tribute Cincinnati and USO of Metropolitan Washington. The company is donating $1 from every sale between Aug. 1 and Sept. 1 to help support critical hospital programs for recovering wounded, ill, and injured service members, their families, and caregivers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

"The donation to USO Tribute Cincinnati and the USO of Metropolitan Washington is another way to express our respect and support for the men and women and their families who sacrifice every day to serve our country," said Ted Torbeck, president of Cincinnati Bell Communications. "Since becoming the title sponsor of the Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks in 2007, we’ve dedicated the show to our troops serving overseas in the United States Armed Forces. This year we decided to take our sponsorship one step further. Our customers responded wonderfully to this program, activating 27,000 new Fioptics, high-speed Internet, and wireless phone accounts in August."

Cincinnati Bell also is working with the Yellow Ribbon Support Center, Prestige Audio/Visual Services, and Fox19 to send DVDs of the 2012 Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks to troops serving in Afghanistan. In addition, with the assistance of the "Let Us Never Forget" organization, the company hosted a VIP Fireworks Party for local "Gold Star" families who lost a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Over the past nine years, USO Tribute Cincinnati has raised more than $3.2 million for the USO of Metropolitan Washington. USO Tribute Cincinnati is the largest fundraising campaign for the USO of Metropolitan Washington outside of Washington, D.C. The Ninth Annual USO Tribute Cincinnati Gala is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Duke Energy Convention Center. For more information, please visit www.usotributecincinnati.com.
